Assignment 5

[time-line]

1. Lakshmi living in Nepal in the village.


2. Lakshmi's dad gambles all their values.


3. Her father knew that he was selling Lakshmi to a brothel but didn't say a word at all.


4. She travels with "auntie" but then gets traded with Uncle husband so that he can traffick her along the border to get to the city.


5. Once she gets to the brothel she's forced to think that she will begin working as a maid. Actually she's going to become a prostitute and will be sold to men but that's when she realizes that she wants to go back home. There is no way back.


6. After being with so many men, she begins to think that somehow she was loved by one of them because of the way that he treated her.


7. Monica gives Lakshmi her only doll. When she goes to return it, she finds out that Monica is no longer in the brothel because of the fact that she catches the virus.
   
8. She realizes that her and another girl are the only people that have made it all the way.


9. She meets the third American and she thinks he's a magical man. He tells her that if she wants he will let her out of there.


10. Lakshmi escapes Happiness House.

assignment 2 DISGRACED pg. 85

What occurs in DISGRACED is somehow sad. As the women walk in front of all men ashamed of themselves, men think of them as if being such a disgrace. Men yell at women in the presence of anyone not caring because they know that no one will tell them anything. Why is it that they get this punishment of shaving their heads. Is it because men opposing to women want them to show their shame??

Assignment 3

According to what i see in the book SOLD my opinion is that the story is man vs. society. The reason is because Lakshmi and the other women there at the brothel are treated as if to be a disgrace. What makes them think that they are any better??
